Thousands of Shia Muslims gathered in Manchester, UK, to mark the holy day of Ashura. They beat their heads and chests to emulate the sufferings of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad. During Ashura, some men torture themselves with chains and knives and even children are known to participate.
