Did Muhammad fly up to heaven on a winged horse?
[3:27]
Just because someone is educated at Oxford, pulls no punches in debate, is very knowledgeable and articulate, that does not mean that they have some overpowering force over a layperson who hasn’t accumulated as much knowledge over time. Higher education counts of course in many respects, I’m not knocking it. I wouldn’t want my self to be operated on by a layperson enthusiast, I would prefer a fully educated and skilled surgeon to help fix me and so on…. higher education is important often.
Mehdi Hasan is a respected British Muslim journalist, educated at Oxford, believes that Mohamed flew up to heaven on a winged horse literally and other myths too. Also, in his powerful defense of Islam in various debates, which is his right of course, and he makes some interesting points (Lots of footage on YouTube), however, I do not need to be an Oxford graduate though to understand that his faith that fuels his debates did not come about by a rational and intelligent process of discovery but simply because he was born into an Indian Muslim family that influenced him to believe in that faith from a very young age which meant he would be rejecting hundreds of other faiths without detailed investigation. This has huge significance!
We are all influenced as children in many ways by parents, society and peer pressure etc, but I’m sorry, if you are going to debate on the world stage on behalf of a faith in 2016 mainly due to being a believer yourself, cherry picking the ‘best bits’ to suit, you had better be able to acknowledge that you were indoctrinated with the ideas of that faith that you intensely defend and believe in. I’ve seen this guy send shivers down the spines of opponents in debate with his articulate no nonsense approach.
He is a Muslim and like most other religious followers of any faith in the world, by an accident of being born into a family or region that believed it. THEREFORE, END OF DEBATE, no matter how articulate and scary he may come across at times, how can you continue a debate with something that is accidentally formed and glued together by various biases that yes we all have about us, BUT THE DIFFERENCE BEING WE ARE NOT DEBATING ON A WORLD STAGE IN FRONT OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE. I find this ludicrous.
The same Oxford education, the same career carved out for Mehdi but born into a Chinese family from Shanghai, he would not be defending and supporting the Islamic faith as he does so because of clear ACCIDENTAL AND BIAS PROCESSES! An example of how really intelligent people can be clearly ignorant too at the very same time.
It’s not rocket science to observe that most are accidentally born into faith…They can keep that faith, it can comfort and inspire, whatever, sure, why not if no harm is done to others in the process?….Does not mean it’s real! It means subconscious bias forming processes created illusions acting as a safety net through life.
BUT TO DEBATE ON TV AND NEVER IT BE MENTIONED HOW HIS BELIEF FORMED AND SOLIDIFIED… AND HE’S ALLOWED TO JUST FLOW AS THOUGH HE’S ALL KNOWING AND SMART….SORRY, WE ARE AN IGNORANT ERA FOR ALLOWING THAT!
Mohamed on a winged horse flying up to heaven. Yeah okay!!! My spaghetti hoops are mini flying saucers transferring DNA into all rabbits so they can take over the world… You can’t disprove that can you Mehdi, Mr Tough Guy questions?…. 😉
