Michael Shermer: Arguing God from Religious Experience?
[5:00]
Religion.. Thank you for the past, but farewell old friend..Take care!
Evolution is great! At least putting up a dogged fight for survival, however, it’s like the genius who flunked school at times. No formal education but has magical properties in unconventional, and often erratic ways that produces the amazing!
Evolution helped our brain create irrational yet appropriate faith based beliefs and overall I just wonder if that was a stroke of genius for past times helping to solidify group bonds until we created a more rational awareness potential as time moved forward. Crusades and Inquisitions aside, religion and the customs and rituals that came with it were a powerful group forming magnet and that was a major player in progress I’m sure for separate groups not interfering with each other.
There’s usually cycles in life though and the erratic brilliance that once was a great survival tool, the irrationality of religion is now getting in the way in a vastly global modern day interaction. Various cultures and their religious faiths are now bumping into each other more and more and clashing where years past they were left to their own devices with minimal outside contact as economy was more local than global.
Evolution paradoxically has helped us enter the more rationally aware potential zone due to a better understanding of ourselves thanks to sciences such as neuroscience and genetic research exponentially growing especially in the last 10 years. Just as religion begins to get in the way, a new modern understanding to help us shift from religion enters the arena at the same time.
In 2016 as that transformation is taking place it often seems like a firework explosion inside a storage warehouse is also taking place due to clashes. RELIGION V SCIENCE is often headline news. The fuel will run out eventually though and reason will come out the winner, with lots of new teachings and more and more young fresh minds replacing the old and traditional. Reason will become the new religion but with new and improved doctrine…
ALWAYS FLEXIBILITY FOR CHANGE WITH THE GREATER GOOD IN MIND AS WE FIND NEW THINGS OUT CONTINUOUSLY… NO ROOM FOR FOOLISH PRIDE!
That can be the new 10 commandments!
If we gladly allow that new dogma as a norm in minds worldwide, we can open doors for a compassion based global economy and not a lost, blind, me, me, me environment coated with plenty of acted out convenient righteousness and happiness. I do not mind a dogma that teaches unselfish memes. Let’s hope sooner rather than later…
Upward and onward ladies, gents!
