Those in the autism community have long known anecdotally that some people with autism appear to struggle mightily with sensory input. Wendy Chung, MD, PhD, a clinical geneticist at Columbia University Medical Center, speaks about how research into so-called “autism genes” has revealed a specific brain difference leading to sensory issues. It also suggests ways caregivers can create better learning environments for autistic kids.
