In my 2-Minute Neuroscience videos I simplistically explain neuroscience topics in 2 minutes or less. In this video, I discuss membrane potential. Membrane potential refers to the difference in charge between the inside and outside of a neuron, which is created due to the unequal distribution of ions on both sides of the cell membrane. Membrane potential is maintained through mechanisms like the sodium-potassium pump, and an understanding of membrane potential is crucial to understanding what happens during an action potential.
